Magazine Cover Intro:

Arousing curiosity (that’s to pull the casual glancer in)
Emotionally irresistible (that’s the image’s appeal
If it is invisible like wallpaper, decide what element is worthy of becoming dominant.
Intellectually stimulating, interesting (that’s to promise benefits)
If the cover pops out from its background, don’t weaken it by fussing with it.

FAVORITE:
#32 Vogue (May 2004)
Photographer Irving Penn captures Nicole Kidmans back profile dressed in a Christian Lacroix oyster satin backless dress for this cover of the May 2004 issue of Vogue. This was the first cover shoot for Vogue by Penn since 1989. The issue contains more photographs of Kidman dressed as a Grecian goddess, an Italian diva and as legendary actress Sarah Bernhardt.
Nicole Kidman is posing in a very formal posture facing away from the camera. The photographer seems like they are trying to catch the elegance of the dress as well as hair and the make-up. The background is somewhat faded and keeps the whole portrait simple. The lighting isn't very heavy, and is more towards the background. The portrait's main focus was the elegance on the cover. So without the loud background or large subtitles, it draws your attention to the model in the cover.

Lytro Warm-Up

1.   When i clicked on the photos the viewpoint automatically focused on the subject or part i clicked on.
2.    Through the camera's "Light Field".
3.    Actually know how to take photo's on manual on that camera.
4.   I belive if photography is something you like to do and taking photgraphs is something you call more than a hobbie, then im pretty sure it is.

Self Portraits and Portraits (Part 2)

  • Use props! Are you a dad and a rocker? Bring your kid and your guitar. Are you a photographer? Add camera gear. Painter? Paint. Poet? Words. Make-up artist? Guess… You get the idea.
  • You may want to make photographs of people going about their business—vendors in a market, a crowd at a sports event, the line at a theater. You don't want them to appear aware of the camera. Many times people will see you, then ignore you because they have to concentrate on what they are doing. You want the viewers of the image to feel that they are getting an unguarded, fly-on-the-wall glimpse into the scene.
  • A self-portrait doesn't have to be of your face—the image of two hands holding a camera says a lot about the photographer who shot his own portrait. You can also aim the camera down your body from eye level.  A picture like this will say a lot about your activities and surroundings.

I like this photo because unlike some of the other pictures he isn's staring into the camera and striking a pose. Now if this is staged, it isn't as obvious as the others. But otherwise, he looks like the typical man that works at those really expensive tuxedo places and has to wear nice clothing to look the part.

I like this photo because the scene is in a little kids room, and she looks as if she doesn't work but is a stay at home mom the way she is dressed and how her hair looks. This fits in perfectly with her environment and everything such as the kid and the toys are just props that add that "mom" feel.

I like this picture because this is something different. This is the typical perspective of a biker because of the mirror from a bike, the glove, and the helmet. These props help us understand the person's personality.

I like this picture because it's as if he doesn't even know the camera is there. I like the whole secnery in the background and the fact that it's in black and white.

I like this picture because the liitle girl in the picture is just so cute. and the apple in her hands reminds us of the fact that we need a healthy generation which starts wiith the kids. The little girl is in a simple little background that isn;t loud nor takes away the attention of the subject.

I like this picture because it is a typical little boy picture with the loud t-shirts of a rocket ship. And the sandwich that his mom probably made him. This picture looks as if it was taken outside because of the colors in the blurred background.

I wanna try to take my own picture for the shoot. I also wanna try to take the picture inside the gym, because that's where i spend most of my time. I wanna try to encorporate props and lost of rules of photography. Props such as a volleyball and maybe the net, as well as maybe my jersey and gear.

Shortlist Warm-up

The reason i liked this photo was because the green color and the mystical effect it adds to the photo. And i also like how you can see the reflection through the water and it balances out the green both on the top and the bottom.
The reason i liked this photo was because this scenery isn't something you can see here on a daily bases... Its a scenery out of the ordinary. For some reason everytime i see this picture it looks like it had just got done raining, i guess its from the lights around the city.

When i first saw this picture it automatically caught my attention because the lighting and the shading on the animal's face, you can somewhat tell that the picture was taken during a sunset.

The reason i really liked this picture is because i absolutely love fashion photography and the stillness of the model and her refection is so simple. But it still has a edgy feeling to it.

I liked this photo because the little girl's expression says it all. It tells you a story and reminds you of when you were a kid and everything was mostly fun and games, when your parents hardly yelled at you, and when you were the little kid that everyone adored.

I really liked this photo because of the blur of the background and how it focuses on one light bulb. The light bulb is also centered just right and balances both sides.

I like this photo because this isn't a type of building you see very often. And how the outline of the outer building is a circle yet the inner glass building is square and it looks as if it's boxed.

I like this photo because in first glance you wouldn't be able to tell what this is, or what the photographer was trying to take a picture of. But once you read the title of the group of pictures you wonder how the photographer was able to accomplish this using a garden and flowers.

The reason i like this photo is because the genre of the picture, the lady's hair, tattoos, guitar, cigarette, and the background all tie into what seems to be the lady's personality. The tattoo's and her red hair are loud and extravagant. She gives the appearance of a punk rocker chick sorta look, which is why I'm pretty sure they tied in the guitar, the alcohol and gold-ish background color.

I liked this picture first of all because i want a motorcycle for myself, and this picture really flaunts the beauty of the motorcycle and i love how the movement through the tunnel is noticeable yet totally still. And how all the colors tie into each other and how the lighting adds that effect.
